In Memory of Rev. Hugh Berry
Prior to coming to New Philadelphia, Hugh was the Interim Executive for Missouri River Valley Presbytery. In 1985 Hugh was named Presbytery Executive for the Muskingum Valley Presbytery which serves all of East-Central Ohio. He retired in January 2002.
Hugh brings an array of talents and interests to the Geib family. Born in Washington, Pennsylvania, Hugh spent his fist ten years on the family farm. After graduating high school in Lincoln, Kansas, he continued his education at Park College, Parkville, Montana. Hugh attended and graduated from Louisville Theological Seminary and was ordained as Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church in June 1961. He served congregations in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, St. Joseph, Montana, Kansas City, Missouri and Sidney, Iowa.
Carolyn, Hugh’s wife, operates Berry Fit Company that manufactures custom-designed clothes for people who show horses. Hugh and Carolyn have six children: three live in Nebraska, one in Florida and two in Ohio. They are blessed with eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Today, Hugh serves as pastor of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in New Philadelphia. When he is not at the funeral home or the church, he enjoys working in the yard and spending time with horses.
