Wendy S. (Smitley) Collinsworth

Wendy S. (Smitley) Collinsworth, age 63, of Elida, Ohio died Saturday, December 29, 2018, in The Ohio State University Medical Center at Columbus following a hard-fought illness.

Born on June 18, 1955, in Union Hospital at Dover, Wendy was a daughter of Harriet “Mama” Smitley-Kuhn of Dover and the late David J. Smitley.

Wendy was a 1973 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and married the love of her life, William “Bill” Collinsworth, Jr. on Christmas Eve, 1973. Together the couple were blessed with a daughter and shared in 45 years of marriage.

An avid gardener and crafter, Wendy loved keeping her house decorated for all seasons and every holiday. She enjoyed taking motorcycle trips with her husband and vacationing with her family.

Lays Potato Chips and coffee were Wendy’s two main food groups. Those who knew her well made sure she was always kept in plentiful supply of both. She also loved caring for her toy poodle, Riley Alexander and being with and attending activities of her grandchildren.

In addition to her mother, husband and daughter, Tressa (Timothy) O’Dell of Elida, Wendy will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Gwennyth and Annalise Gatchel and Lexus and Makai Lopez; her sister-in-law, Deb Smitley; three brothers-in-law, Doug (Yoni) Collinsworth, Charles Collinsworth and Robert Beck; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Wendy was preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law, Larry D. and Sheila Smitley; a brother, Jesse Smitley; a brother-in-law, Robert Collinsworth; two sisters-in-law, Peggy Collinsworth and Jean Beck; and her mother and father-in-law, Hazel and William Collinsworth, Sr.

The family will greet guests on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 4-6 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Max Canfield will lead a time of reflection immediately following visitation. Following, all are invited to join the family for a time of food and fellowship in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Geib Center.
