Voneta M. Sherrard

VONETA M. SHERRARD, age 101, died quietly early Wednesday morning, August 14, 2002 at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover. She was born September 17, 1900 in Hopewell, Guernsey County, Ohio, the only daughter of Riley M. and Martha J. Marlatt Marlowe. Voneta graduated from Newcomerstown High School and Muskingum College. Following her education she married Noble Sherrard in 1926. He preceded her in death in 1982. For nineteen years, Voneta taught at various schools and retired from teaching in Winfield. A long-time member of the First Christian Church in New Philadelphia, she also was a member of the Ohio State and Tuscarawas County Retired Teachers Associations. Voneta was skilled at needlework and cooking. She is survived by her daughters, Corinna (Lorin) Houze of New Philadelphia and Anita Carol Walker of Sarasota, FL; grandchildren, Eric (Cathy) Houze of Strasburg; Lori Watson of Uhrichsville; Tim “Scott” Walker of Sarasota, FL; and Craig Walker of Uhrichsville; great-grandchildren, Ryan Ott, Ashley and Corey Watson, Wesley Walker, Danielle Walker and Tyler Walker. In addition to her parents and husband, Voneta was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde, Donald and Ralph Marlowe. Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Saturday, August 17, 2002 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 PM with Rev. Kenard J. Parrott officiating.
