Thelma “Dolly” Canfield

June 11, 1936 — December 10, 2022

Thelma “Dolly” Canfield, 86, of New Philadelphia, slipped out the back door to go into the presence of her Lord, on December 10, 2022.

Born in New Philadelphia on June 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd C. and Lucy Irene (Gowins) Everett.

After attending Midvale High School, Dolly met and fell in love with her husband and best friend, the late Edward Lee Canfield. On August 4, 1953, they wed and shared a Christ-filled life, sharing their faith both by word and deed. They were richly blessed with the birth of each of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dolly’s faith was nurtured at the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia where she was an active member.

She instilled her faith and love of her Lord to her family including her children, Edward Ray Canfield of Newcomerstown, Rev. Terry (Ruth) Canfield of Greensburg, Indiana, Penney (Tim) Simmers of New Philadelphia and Kandy (Greg) Griffith of Margate, Florida; her grandchildren, Carrie (Todd) Gammeter, Ashlee (Rev. Patrick) Knable, Rev. Joshua Canfield, Nathan Canfield, Mandy Boyles, Adam (Alyssa) Simmers, Kasey (James) Carter, Hayley (Evan) McGraw, Taylor Griffith and Jordan Griffith; her great-grandchildren, Keenan and Isabelle Gammeter, Ellis, Mera, and Isla Knable, Kaylee and Xavier Boyles, MacKenzie and Colton Carter, and Harper and Ellwood McGraw; and her siblings, Nancy Meechan and John (Judy) Everett.

Dolly was welcomed into heaven by her husband, Edward; her parents; a daughter, Holly Lynn Canfield; a granddaughter, Jaime Lea Griffith; and 6 siblings.

Private family services will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and interment will take place in Roxford Church Cemetery.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Community Hospice and The Inn at Northwood Village for their care and compassion for Dolly.

Memorial contributions in Dolly’s memory may be directed to either First Church of the Nazarene, 233 Fair Ave NE or Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
