Sue Meyer

Sue A. Helbling Meyer, age 78, of Grove City, Ohio died Thursday, February 14, 2019 in her residence.

Born in Union Hospital at Dover on April 30, 1940, Sue was a daughter of the late Leo A. and Catherine E. Haley Helbling.

Sue was a 1958 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and furthered her education by attending secretarial school at Columbus. Sue was employed for many years as an Executive Secretary for Boeing in California and later returned to Ohio to work for the Columbus Clippers and Franklin County’s Jackson Township often remarking that she retired when the computers showed up.

Sue was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church at Grove City and a die-hard fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes. She loved meeting new people and almost immediately begin an interview with them that typically led to her knowing their life story by the time their encounter was complete. Sue also found great joy in planning events and parties and was known for her excellent skills as a seamstress having made numerous wedding dresses through the years for family and friends.

Surviving are two sisters, Mary Hamilton of Dover and Kay Floyd of North Carolina; a niece, Kathy Hamilton and three nephews, Mark Hamilton, Jim (Amy) Hamilton all of Dover; and Paul (Jackie) Floyd of North Carolina. Completing the family are her great-nieces and nephews and many extended family members.

In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Meyer; a nephew, Brian Hamilton; and two brothers-in-law, Tom Hamilton and Paul Floyd.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 10-11 AM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where a memorial service led by Fr. Jeff Coning will begin at 11 AM. Following the service, all are invited to share in a meal and fellowship in the Hospitality Room of the Dover Geib Center. Sue will be interred in the Dover Burial Park at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Sue’s name may be directed to the Sacred Heart Building Fund, 139 Third Street NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
