Ronnie Joe Ludwig, 76, of Dover, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, March 19, 2019, in his residence following a sudden illness.

Born in Union Hospital at Dover on February 9, 1943, Ron was the only child born to the late Fred and Doris (Thompson) Ludwig.

Ron was a graduate of Braxton High School in Sutton, West Virginia. Ron furthered his education at the former West Virginia Tech where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. He taught English for Garaway High School and Buckeye Career Center and retired in 2000. Prior to teaching, however, Ron honorably served his country as a member of the United States Air Force from 1968-1972.

Ron was an active member of Dover Baptist Temple for many years. His mission in life was to help anyone in need. It did not matter if it was simple, such as driving someone to a doctor’s appointment or a complex job of rebuilding a lawn mower, Ron was sure to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed making nightly calls to elderly friends to check in on them to make sure that they were not only safe but had what they needed.

In his free time, Ron was an avid reader and a car fanatic who loved anything Ford or Dodge related. His most recent activity was working on his 1986 Dodge Omni.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Janice Milam whom he married on February 25, 1966; their daughters, Anna (Doug) Weyrick of Green and Alison (Curt) Harvey of Andover, Ohio; his four grandchildren, who where the light of his life, Jacob, Alex, Marissa, and Ryan; numerous cousins; and his beloved cats.

The family will greet guests on Saturday, March 23, 2019 from Noon – 1 PM in the Dover Baptist Temple where Pastor Chris Rhodes will lead a service celebrating Ron’s life at 1 PM. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. A meal and fellowship will be shared by all in the church social hall following the burial.

Instead of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Dover Baptist Temple, 2896 State Route 800 NE, Dover, OH 44622.

A special note for Anna: i am so sorry for the sudden loss of your father. As you know, I very much treasured my time getting to know your father while we both taught at Buckeye. I also greatly enjoyed our lively conversations after we both retired. He never failed to update me about you and your sister. It was so obvious he was extremely proud of you both. Nothing can replace the sincere love which comes from a father to daughter. I know you miss him greatly already and for that I am truly sorry. I have a grandson who.is wrestling at the state tournament tomorrow so i.will not be there to give you a big hug. I am sorry but I will have you and your family deeply in my thoughts tomorrow. I.do hope to see you again some day.

Paul PlumbThanks Mr. Ludwig, you changed my life! You also inspired me to try to do my very best to do the same brother! God bless you and rest in peace! posted on 3/21/19

My wife and I, Paul and Marlene Plumb, both had Mr. Ludwig as a teacher for freshman English in 1972. We both retired from teaching last year, ending our 30+ year careers. Mr. Ludwig was the teacher who had the most impact on me in high school. He was my inspiration to become a teacher! When I walked into freshman English for the first time, I sat in the back, put my feet up on another chair, slouched over and basically acted like a punk! He Immediately let me know the errors of my ways, and began that day to build a relationship with me, help me recognize my potential, and to motivate me with very high expectations! Thanks Mr. Ludwig, you changed my life! You also inspired me to try to do my very best to do the same! I am glad I had the opportunity to share this with Mr. Ludwig about 10 years ago. God bless you, Mr. Ludwig, and rest in peace! ( Marlene and I are living in working at an orphanage in Mexico)
