Rodney R. Reinhart

August 29, 1940 — January 6, 2021

Rodney R. Reinhart, age 80, of Dover and formerly of Stone Creek, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021, while in the care of Community Hospice’s Truman House at New Philadelphia.

Born at Stone Creek, on August 29, 1940, Rod was a son of the late Rolan R. and Bernice A. Sherretts Reinhart.

He graduated from Stone Creek Jefferson High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. He was selected to the Coaches All County basketball team his Junior year and during his Senior year was named Tuscarawas County MVP in 1958. Rod played Shortstop for the Stone Creek Hilltopper adult baseball team and also played basketball in the adult church league. He maintained his love for sports throughout his lifetime and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians and OSU.

Rod was a 35-year volunteer with the Stone Creek Volunteer Fire Department. As a member of Grace Community Church, he had served as a Deacon and past Treasurer. He also served as a Trustee for the Stone Creek Cemetery Association.

His professional career of 45 years was spent with Marsh Lumber Company at Dover where he was the Timber Buyer, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. His passion for trees and wood species led him to spend fall vacations traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway. He also enjoyed making items for his home and loved making and giving away bird houses to family and friends.

In his younger years, he could be found on a nearby lake fishing with his buddies but his attention soon turned toward his family as he found great joy in attending the sporting events and activities of his granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, the former Corine Endlich, whom he married on June 12, 1959; a daughter, Shauna (Tim) Deetz of New Philadelphia and a son, Daniel (Amy) Reinhart of North Carolina; his granddaughters, Caitlin Deetz, Taryn (JJ) Householder, Chloe Reinhart, Lili Reinhart, Tess Reinhart; a great-granddaughter, Sloane Householder; his sisters, Monica McAfee of New Philadelphia and Brenda Swegheimer of Strasburg, and a brother-in-law, Cliff (Renetta) Endlich of Stone Creek.

In addition to his parents, Rod was preceded in death by an infant son, Ryan Rod Reinhart.

A memorial service celebrating Rod’s life will take place at 1 PM on Monday, February 1, 2021, in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover with the family greeting guests one hour prior to the service.
