Robert L. Gerber, 85, of 205 Sunset Dr., Baltic, died Monday, July 22, 2002, at 11:55 p.m. in his residence after an extended illness.Born October 5, 1916, in Baltic, he was a son of the late Percy S. and Edith Hoffman Gerber.He reitred as a partner at Gerber & Sons Inc. at Baltic. He was a member of the Baltic United Methodist Church, where he was a former Sunday School superintendent, was a member of the West Lafayette Masonic Lodge No. 602, Coshocton Eastern Star, Scottish Rite at Canton and Tadmor Temple at Akron.He was also a charter member of the Baltic Lions Club, the Community Improvement Corp., the Historical Club and the Baltic Conservation Club. In addition, he was a former member of the Baltic Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Board of Education.He is survived by his wife, the former Freda Messerly, whom he married March 4, 1939. Also surviving are two sons, Gary (Carol) Gerber of Baltic and Dick (Jan) Gerber of Berlin; four grandchildren, Tiffany (Ralph) Miller, Trish (Robert) Scheren, Eric (Carol) Gerber and Julie (James) Hershberger; six great-grandchildren, Ben and Chaise Gerber, Hallie, Ian and Seth Hershberger and Ethan Miller.Two brothers, Dean and Andy, and one sister, Mary Christine, are deceased.Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Baltic United Methodist church at Baltic. Revs. Ed Williams and David Williams will officiate, and burial will follow in West Lawn Cemetery at Baltic. Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Smith-Geib Funeral Home at Baltic and one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. The West Lafayette Masonic Lodge will conduct services at 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. The family suggests memorials may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County or the donor’s favorite charity in memory of Mr. Gerber.
