Robert L. “Bob” Karl, 89, of New Philadelphia passed away peacefully in Community Hospice Truman House on Monday, September 12, 2022, after complications of a stroke.

Born in New Philadelphia on May 2, 1933, he was the son of the late Leo W. and Florence L. (Lab) Karl.

He was a 1951 New Philadelphia High School graduate and then honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

On October 27, 1956, he married the late Gena (Comignaghi) Karl; together the couple enjoyed 47 wonderful life-filled years until her death on March 29, 2003.

Bob was a retiree of Shenango Penn Mold in 1996. His faith was nurtured at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in New Philadelphia where he was a devoted, life-long member. He was recently recognized as a 67-year member of the LCPL Peter Clore Knights of Columbus (Council #2372). Additionally, Bob was a longtime member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #510, the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445, the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Booster Club.  He also volunteered countless hours at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.

Bob was a hard-working, loving, and giving father who lived life to the fullest. In his early years, he spent time with his family, took care of his yard, traveled, and enjoyed helping his boys with construction projects in their homes. He also loved supporting his grandchildren at their respective sporting events.

He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert A. (Donna) Karl, Timothy (Kim) Karl, Douglas (Leslie) Karl and Rhonda Karl, wife of deceased son, Mark, who passed away on November 22, 2021. He will be sadly missed by nine grandchildren, Dustin Robert (Jess) Karl, Ashley (Brian) Rummell, Dustin Richard (Claire) Krebs, Jennifer (fiancé, Robert Bellomy) Cunningham, Makenzie Karl, Brandon Karl, Amanda (Braden) Woodside, Michael Karl and Alex Karl. Bob was also blessed and very proud of his 10 great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Adelynn and Camdynn Karl, Hoyt and Rhett Rummell, Gabby and Lucas Cunningham, Charlotte Bellomy, and Lilah and Bennett Krebs.

Surviving are his brother and sister, Tom (Judy) Karl and Sandie (Carl) Rufener; sisters-in-law, Barb Karl and Loraine Karl; and two very special friends, Verna Simmons and her son, Jim.

In addition to his parents, wife, and son, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, William and Joseph Karl; his sister, Mary Anne Lehman; and his great-grandson, Colson Robert Dean Karl.

Friends may call at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Thursday, September 15, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. where the Rosary will begin at 7:00. Father Jeff Coning will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 16 at 10:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church with visitation one hour prior to mass in the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors. I was deeply saddened to hear of the loss of your dad/grandfather. Mr. Carl was always so friendly, he had one of the best smiles. He was a good man and a dedicated TCC supporter. I'll miss seeing him at the football games selling programs. It's so sad to see this generation leave us one by one. He left behind a beautiful legacy in all of you. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
