Robert Idleman Cassady, Jr. 89, of Dover, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022 in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia. Born August 4, 1932 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Robert Idleman Cassady, Sr. and Margot Hannah (McKinney) Cassady.

Robert Idleman Cassady, Jr. 89, of Dover, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2022 in Amberwood Manor at New Philadelphia. Born August 4, 1932 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Robert Idleman Cassady, Sr. and Margot Hannah (McKinney) Cassady.

Growing up in Akron and following his graduation from high school, Bob attended Oberlin College and received his Bachelors of Arts Degree in 1954. In 1957 he graduated from New York Theological Seminary and served as pastor of Cuyler Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn, New York until 1968. He then attended the University of Arizona where he graduated in 1976 with his Ph.D. in Psychology. Bob became the first psychologist working in the Arizona Department of Corrections and served in various supervisory capacities until his retirement in 1996. Following his retirement, he and his wife then moved to Dover, where they were still residing.

Bob enjoyed golfing, gardening, genealogy, traveling and working with finances and was treasurer of his investment club for many years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at New Philadelphia, where he also served as treasurer and a member of both the Dover and Tuscarawas County Historical Societies. He and his wife traveled to every state in the union and many parts of the world, both before and after their retirement.

Surviving is his wife of over 65 years, Virginia L. (Byers) Cassady; two sons, Kenneth Scott Cassady of Tacoma, Washington and Stephen Bruce Cassady of Colorado; two grandchildren, Gryphon Corwyn and Kirin Fey and a sister Sally Henry of Tucson, Arizona.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2022 in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Joe Svancara officiating. Following the service and in keeping with Bob’s wishes, he is to be cremated and a private burial will take place in his family’s cemetery in West Virginia.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either the First Presbyterian Church, 217 East High Avenue, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, or, Crossroads Hospice, 3743 Boettler Oaks Drive, Green, Ohio 44685.
