Robert C. Lorenz, 74, of Newcomerstown, died Tuesday, April 02, 2002 at Hennis Care & Retirement Centre, Dover, following a brief illness.Born May 12, 1927, in Newcomerstown, he was the son of the late Charles and Bernice Gross Lorenz. Robert was a mason for Gundy Construction and Billman Construction, and he also managed and operated the Sohio station in Stone Creek for a number of years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Robert was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ, Stone Creek, where he served as a Deacon and a sexton. He was also a member of the Dover Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 707, and he was an avid gardener, hunter and fisherman.Surviving is his wife, Peggy McMillan Lorenz, with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on April 14; daughter, B.J. (William) Gano of Newcomerstown; sons, Bob (Cindy) Lorenz of New Philadelphia, Jim Lorenz and companion Chris, of Akron, Bill (Jennifer) Lorenz of Wadsworth, John Lorenz and his companion Marlene; eight grandchildren, Andy & Abby Gano, Marcie & Jason Lorenz, Sarah & Amanda Lorenz, Lindsey & Mitchell Lorenz; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Andrea and Andrew Gano; brother, Kenneth Lorenz of West Lafayette.Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Grace United Church of Christ, Stone Creek, with Pastor Janet Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at the Stone Creek Cemetery in Stone Creek. Visitation will be held, from 5-8 PM, on Friday, April 5, 2002 at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Memorial contributions can be made to the Memorial Fund or the Scholarship Fund at Grace United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 97, Stone Creek, Ohio, 43840.
