January 19, 1921 — March 4, 2002

ROBERT B. LONG, SR., 81, a life-long resident of Dennison, died Monday, March 4, 2002 at Morning View Care Center in New Philadelphia. Bob was the son of the late Clarence and Elsie Armstrong Long. In 1940 he graduated from Uhrichsville High School. By profession, Bob was a millwright, retiring from LTV Steel in Massillon in 1984. Bob was a member of the Midvale VFW Post and enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, playing Bingo and attending yard sales.He is survived by his wife, the former Flora J.”Jane” McNutt Durning Long, whom he married July 3, 1998; a daughter, Lois (Edward) Smith of Tuscarawas; daughter-in-law, Linda Long of Dennison; step-children Ivan (Tammy) Durning, Jr, Jane (Tim) Thornton, Iris (Wayne) Miller and Lee (Patrick) Ossler; grandchildren, Carl (Kim) Crawford, Shelly (Joseph) Snyder, Charlie Smith, Robert (Renee) Long, III, Scott and Dustin Long; step-grandchildren, Brenton Smith, Stacy McDaniels, Ivan and Brittania Durning, Ashley McIntire, Brandon and Cody Thornton, Jordan, Malaya and Sydney Osier; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Tracy (Joann) Long of Canton; sister, Harriet Kramer of Uhrichsville; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his first wife, Freda G. Burgett Long in November, 1988, his son, Robert B. Long, Jr. a granddaughter, Theresa Crawford, one brother and three sisters. The funeral service will be Friday, March 8, 2002 at 1:30 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with Rev. Henry E. Mooney officiating. Burial, alongside his first wife, will be at Evergreen Burial Park, with military rites presented by the VFW. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 7, 2002 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the funeral home.
