Randall L. Meese, 65, of Dover was born ornery on January 16, 1953 and was ornery until the day he passed away on September 19, 2018 fighting Esophageal Cancer. He was surrounded by his family as his life in heaven with his heavenly Savior began.

How do you write an obituary for a man like Randy Meese? Here’s some of the basics.

Survived by the love of his life for 42 years, Cheryl Meese, daughters Danielle (John) Dupke, Autumn (Matt) Mastroine and son Christian (Deborah) Meese. His mother, Carroll Meese, brothers Elmer (Becky) Meese of North Carolina, Terry Meese of New Philadelphia and sisters, Robin (Gary) Tumbling of Georgia and Amber (Ted) Ricker of New Philadelphia. His grandchildren Isaac , Micaiah and Isaiah Stemple, Jay Dupke, Jacob and Caleb Mastroine, Maylene and Solera Meese and numerous nieces and nephews. His father and mother in law Don and Fauneil Meredith loved Randy like their own son. Preceded in death by his father, Elmer Meese.

Randy was a friend to everybody he met and had many great friends who were an encouragement to him in his life. He was constantly telling jokes, pulling pranks and making others laugh. Even while doing his chemo treatments and icu visits he became a favorite because his sense of humor made everyone smile. He loved fishing with his family and the beach. He always made family vacations important and made sure each one was epic! He loved palm trees and listening to a good storm while sitting with his wife.

First Baptist Church in New Philadelphia is where they grew in the Lord and where he taught Sunday school, cooked for the church events and had been on mission trips to India, Russia, China and the Philippines. He graduated from the Shepard’s School of Ministry in 2003. He has impacted so many lives while he was here on earth.

There’s so much about Randy that will be missed. His smile and the mischievous twinkle that was always in his eyes are some of our favorites. It never mattered how busy he was, if you needed his time he freely gave it away. Randy made the world better by being in it. To continue his legacy of love and laughter, may we follow the example he set. Be kind, give away your time to those in need. Show your smiles without judgement, live for your family, enjoy the blessings God has given and laugh.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 2 to 5 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. A funeral service celebrating Randy’s life will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Rich VanArsdalen officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Randy was indeed a wonderful brother-in-law, we admired his since of humor and the much love he had for his family. Never a time around him that you didn't laugh. We will always remember the 3 wood hearts he had made for us when Dave was in Desert Storm with bible verses. The big heart had our favorite song written on it. We cherish them and always will? Rest in peace

I met Randy and Cheryl on my monthly weekends to Scott Air Force Base where they had set up every month to sell sheets on drill weekend. I bought many, many sets of sheets from them for family and friends back at work. I’ve never met anyone in my life like Randy. I would talk to him many times for over an hour and would come to the base exchange many times just to see Randy and Cheryl even though I wasn’t buying anything. What a beautiful love they shared. I was often jealous of that love and many times walked away wishing that someday I would have that love with someone. I’ve yet to find it...it is so very rare! Randy will be the brightest star I could ever possibly see in the heavens at night because his personality was just like that on earth! Cheryl, I pray for peace and comfort during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry for your loss. With a heavy heart and the nonstop tears, I want to tell you how my uncle Randy Meese touched my life. He was caring, thoughtful and loving. Anyone that knew him was blessed. He was a great example of how a husband and father should be. And it was so good for me to have that example!! Seeing his family bond is a testament to the great life he lived. He was like a dad to me. Even as I got older he would tell me I could stay with them whenever I needed too and he meant it, because he was always looking out for me. He knew I needed it! I have great memories of fishing with him and laughing with him always. He loved to make jokes or pull funny pranks because he enjoyed seeing people around him happy. Oh, and he had a great laugh! Yes, heaven got an AMAZING MAN. He will be missed here on Earth. I love you U.Randy!
