Paul M. Roth

Paul M. Roth, 78, of Uhrichsville, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 19, 2002, at Aultman Hospital in Canton following a brief illness and surgery.Born May 27, 1924, he was the son of the late George C. and Blanche Marie Myers Roth. Paul was a 1942 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, and he then attended Canton-Actual Business College until he was drafted into World War II. He served honorably in the US Army in Europe. Paul then went to work for the Superior Clay Corporation before joining United Bank of Uhrichsville (currently, Bank One’s Uhrichsville Branch) in 1956. He worked as a teller, then a loan officer, next as the operations officer, and finally, he held the position of senior vice president, until retiring in 1986. He was very involved in the Broadway United Methodist Church of New Philadelphia, where he was a member of the choir, performed many solos, and belonged to the Golden Rule Sunday school class. He also srved as Lay Delegate to the Conference for a number of years, and currently Finance Chairman of the church. Paul was a member of the Tuscarawas VFW Post # 7943, Tuscarawas County Camp of Gideons, Tuscarawas County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, representative of the Twin City Chamber of Commerce, Twin City Industrial Building Committee, Mill Township School Board. Also, he held the position of Uhrichsville City treasurer, a position that he was elected to in 1969.Personally, he enjoyed softball, golf and fishing. He was also very involved with his family and was a special part of all of their lives.Surviving is his wife Thyra J. Roth, of the home, whom he married on September 23, 1945; two sons, Tim (Rita) Roth and Dick (Debbie) Roth, both of New Philadelphia; five grandchildren, Lori, Jennifer, Leanne and Bryan Roth and Heather (Dave) McClanahan; two brothers, Raymond Roth of Marblehead and Phil (Nancy) Roth of Gnadenhutten; a sister, Jean (Earl) Reifenschneider of Dover; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Anita Jo Roth and a brother, Neil Roth. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2002, at 11 AM at the Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church Street S.E., New Philadelphia, with Rev. Jon McCleery officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville where military honors will be conducted by Tuscarawas VFW Post # 7943. There will be a gathering of family and friends at the church following the services at the cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 22, from 2-4 and 6-9 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia with a Gideons service being held at 8:30 PM.Memorial Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church Street S.W., New Philadelphia, Oh 44663, or the Tuscarawas County Camp of Gideons International, P.O.
