Maurine Joy Shambarger, 62 years of age, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2008, after a valiant battle with cancer.

She was born January 16, 1946 in Dover, Ohio to Warren and Margaret Henninger.

Maurine put herself through St. Mary’s School of Nursing and later earned advanced nursing degrees from the University of Akron and Andrews University. Maurine applied and shared her expertise in health care at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in multiple roles, most recently as a Clinical Nurse Care Specialist. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where she founded the Parish Nurse Program and served on the Altar Society and Parish Council. Following Christ’s example, she co-founded the DayWatch Foot Clinic for the homeless through Union College. She was a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society.

She was an avid runner and recently completed a 365-mile bike tour of the Canadian Rockies. The “Dancing Queen” was typically the first on the dance floor at weddings. She was a devoted mother and wife who led by example. Her passion for life will be greatly missed by her family, friends and co-workers.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; daughters, Amy Marie Shambarger of Denver, Colorado and Katrina Anne Shambarger of Southwest Harbor, Maine; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Michael and Ksenia of Dillon, Colorado, and Erick and Amy of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Vlad and Braden Shambarger; a brother, David Henninger of Bolivar, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.

Following services in Nebraska, Maurine was cremated. A burial service will be led by Monsignor George J. Schlegel on Friday, July 3, 2009, at 10:30 AM in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Following the service, the family would like to invite guests to join them in St. Abrose Hall, adjacent to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
