Mary Ann Shotwell, 87, of Strasburg, passed away Monday, July 25, 2022 in Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital at Canton.

Mary Ann Shotwell, 87, of Strasburg, passed away Monday, July 25, 2022 in Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital at Canton.
Born October 7, 1934 in Union Hospital at Dover, she was the daughter of the late Bill and Yolanda (DiSanto) Magnacca and was a 1952 graduate of the former St. Mary’s High School in Dennison. Following graduation, Mary attended the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing at Canton. Graduating in 1955 and beginning a nursing career that would span over 40 years. During her career as a nurse, Mary worked for Union Hospital, the late Dr. Raymond Giles and served for over 20 years as Supervisor of both the Home Health Agency and Health Clinic with the Tuscarawas County Health Department.
In 1987, Mary joined the State of Ohio Division of Quality Assurance and in 1991, accepted and served as Supervisor of over 22 counties of the Southeast District of Ohio and served in the position until her retirement in 1996.
Mary was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover and also a member and former treasurer of the St. Joseph’s Seniors. She also was a member of and past secretary for the Public Employees Retirement group.
In addition to her parents, Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond L. Shotwell in 2001 and her daughter, Vicki Avon in 2021 and three brothers, Anthony, Louis and Isadore Magnacca.
She is survived by her son-in-law, Tim Avon of Strasburg, two sisters-in-law, Norma Magnacca and Ro-Jean Magnacca and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at 11 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Dover with Father Jimmy Hatfield officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. Friends will be received from 10 to 11 AM in the church.
It was Mary’s wish that memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 613 North Tuscarawas Avenue, Dover, Ohio 44622.
