Marjorie I. Rogers, 80, of Country Club Retirement Center, Dover, and a long-time resident of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, in the center.Born Mar. 9, 1921, in Byesville, she was a daughter of the late John Chester Powell and the late Sophia Griffith Powell. Marjorie graduated from Byesville High School. She married John D. Rogers on Nov. 12, 1939. John died in 1991. Marjorie retired from Union Country Club, Dover, following twenty years of service. She also owned and operated the former Rogers Restaurant, New Philadelphia. Marjorie was well known for her sweet rolls.She was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church, New Philadelphia, where she cooked for dinners and funeral meals, and was a member of the Mary Martha Circle. Marjorie dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Survivors include two daughters, Carole Patrick and Patricia (Leonard “Butch”) Pompey, both of New Philadelphia; two sons, John “Mike” (Judie) Rogers of Aptos, CA, and Tom (Bonnie) Rogers of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Becky Harmon, Mike Rogers, Charles Pompey, Rae Lynn Poole, Tony Pompey, Michelle Emanuelson, Tom Keister, Margie Strauss, Tori and Tara Rogers; seventeen great-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents, and her husband, John, she was preceded in death by four sisters, a brother, and a son-in-law, Gene Patrick.A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, New Philadelphia, with Revs. Warren F. Outhwaite and Jim Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Ridgecrest Memory Gardens, Dover. There will be a meal in Broadway United Methodist Church following the committal. Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., in the funeral home.

i can remmber how much lyle would talk about marjorie and john and it was just like it was his real mom and dad he love them so much that he would have give his right arm for them and the frist time i want with him to there home it was like they know me all there live ,that is a place i well have in my heart forever .marjorie would give you anything even if she need it frist ,but you was frist not her ,her heart was open to all,she is a very loveing wife,mother,grandmother,and great grandmother .are hearts go out to all of you we are so sorry wish we could be there .they are all together againcooking in heaven love angie,beth,lyle,cory&torey

So sorry to hear about Marge, believe it or not I used to work with her at Union Country Club years ago. I'm glad that Olivia had the chance to get to know her. Olivia cared about and loved her great grandma very much. My heart goes out to you all.
