Julia E. Ankrom

JULIA E. ANKROM, 86, of New Philadelphia, and a long-time resident of Fry’s Valley, was called home by God unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Union Hospital in Dover. She was born in Lock Seventeen on May 5, 1915 to the late Samuel J. and Laura A. Shull Kohler and reared in Fry’s Valley. In 1933 she graduated from Gnadenhutten High School. Julia was married in Maryland on December 25, 1947 to the late Bernie Ankrom, Sr., who died April 18, 1977, and her mother served as the witness and chaperone. A long-time member of Fry’s Valley Moravian Church, Julia was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a devoted family woman who loved sewing, flower gardening, canning, and cooking. Julia was known for her homemade pies, noodles and cinnamon rolls. During the Second World War, she worked at the Goodyear plant in Akron, which was converted to build airplanes for the war effort. She also worked at the Belmont Stamping plant in New Philadelphia as well as keeping house for several New Philadelphia residents. She is survived by daughters, Lois Inherst and L. Diane Tristano; sons, Bernie (Susie) Ankrom, Don Ankrom and Ron Ankrom, all of New Philadelphia; sister, Vandalia “Tutz” Zeller of Fairfield, PA; grandchildren, Brandi and Tony Ankrom, Adam (Loretta) Ankrom, Erica and Shelby Ankrom, Dawn (Rick) Morrow, Lacy, Brad II and Chad Inherst, Terry II (Michelle) Tristano, Shavon and Cody Tristano, and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, brothers Delbert, Curtis, and Albert Eugene “Butz” Kohler and sisters, Froma, Katherine and Twila Kohler and Vodean Cummings preceded Julia in death. The funeral will be Sunday, April 21, 2002 at 1:30 PM in the Fry’s Valley Moravian Church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Following the cemetery committal, a reception will be given in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the funeral home. Calling hours will be on Saturday, April 20, 2002, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home.
