Joseph Northrop

September 7, 1986 — April 2, 2020

Joseph Carl Northrop, age 33, of New Philadelphia went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 2, 2020, in his residence following a life-long battle with Muscular Dystrophy.

Born in Union Hospital at Dover on September 7, 1986, Joe is the son of Timothy and Linda Meek Northrop.

Joe was a graduate of Tusky Valley High School and Buckeye Career Center where he studies Business Marketing. He also attended Kent State University at Tuscarawas.

His faith was nurtured at Schoenbrunn Moravian Church where he enjoyed being part of the church family. Those who knew Joe were well versed in his love for Ohio State Football. He looked forward to those fall Saturdays when family and friends gathered to watch the games. He was also an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and never gave up hope for the Cleveland Browns. Joe loved playing video games, especially Madden Football and watching cooking shows. He was the one who made sure the menu was planned for holiday gatherings and special events. He loved gathering with his family during not only the holidays but during picnics at the family home. Poker games were a highlight with his cousins during these times. Joe loved animals, especially cats. He loved and cared for his cat, Reddy, and had a great relationship with his Golden Retriever, Tressel.

Whether it was at church or school or even at home, his presence and his sharing of knowledge and kindness were always admired. Joe’s life and attitude were an inspiration to those around him.

In addition to his parents, Joe will be missed by his family, his grandmother, Carolyn Weist of New Philadelphia; his aunts and uncles, Tom (Sharon) Northrop, Trish (Sebastian) Birceanu, and John (Karen) Meek, Sr., as well as numerous cousins and their families.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandparents, Carl and Mary Lou Meek, Francis Weist and Alan Northrop and an uncle, Glenn Meek.

Joe deserves a beautiful tribute and it is the hope of the family that you join them at a later date during a celebration of his life in the Schoenbrunn Moravian Church. For the time being, please be with them in prayer, send a personal condolence or light a candle in remembrance of Joe by visiting the funeral home’s website at www.GeibCares.com.
