Joseph F. Dick, 58, of New Philadelphia, passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2021.

Born in East Liverpool, he was the son of the late Joseph S. Dick and is survived by his mother, Carol (Simcox) Dick of Calcutta, Ohio. Joe graduated from Beaver Local High School, Lisbon OH in 1981. He obtained multiple degrees in engineering from Kent State University and the former Jefferson Technical College at Steubenville. Joe spent his professional career with Flex Technologies in Midvale, beginning in the mid 1980’s as an engineering tech, ultimately obtaining the title of Vice President of Engineering. In 1988, Joe was presented the Taguchi Test Method Award (in Japan) for improving manufacturing processes.

Joe was a member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia. He was an avid supporter of his children’s numerous athletic and musical endeavors. Joe had passion for anything electronic or mechanical, “helping” with science fair projects, and 3-D printing. He enjoyed Gunsmoke, Star Trek, building rockets and flying kites. Joe also loved studying American War History.

On February 9, 1991, Joe married Karen (Seng) Dick; together they shared over 30 years of marriage. Also surviving are his children, David (Stacy) of Milford Ohio, CPT Cassondra (John) Loftus of Ft. Hood, Texas, Lannan (fiancé AJ) of LaGrange OH, Austin, a senior at Ohio University, and Ryan, a senior at TCC; a brother, Matthew (Jennifer) Dick of Cape Coral, Forida; numerous nieces and nephews; close personal family friends – the Clore and Craig families; and his faithful furry companions, Sherlock and Major.

Preceding him in death, in addition to his father, is Joe’s first wife, Lisa (Minto) Dick.

Our entire family will miss Joe and he will be on my prayer list for the rest of my life. My daughter Victoria (Tori) and son-in law Daniel Fuller II were especially close to Karen, Lannan and Austin in school and in sports. I was fortunate enough to have Joe available for technical, engineering and quality support while I was at Flex and was glad I could give some assistance with some home projects. We also shared interests in forestry, rocketry, hunting, and the outdoors and I appreciated his sense of humor. Joe was always a proud father and justifiably so. I considered Joe an example of what a Christian father should be; a guide, protector and provider. God bless Joe and may God bless his family and friends.

We want to offer you all our most sincere condolences. What better tribute can there be to a man than to look to the children he and Karen have raised? They are among the most capable, confident and compassionate I have known. Thanks Joe, and Karen, for such a wonderful contribution to our world! May God bless you all with peace and strength during this difficult time.

To one of the best friends I've ever had. Our almost daily conversations kept me sane. We have had a lot of laughs over the years. The "Joe Laugh" never changed in all of the decades that I have known you. We will talk again my friend. I already miss you, pal. I am deeply saddened by your untimely death. I turned on "Gunsmoke" today. Thought of you. Joe was extremely proud of his children. "They are all engineers" he would always tell me. He was a great father.

Karen and family, I was very saddened to hear of Joe's passing. I have many wonderful memories of Joe growing up next door you guys for so many years. He taught me how to use gas string trimmers while doing yardwork for him, and he even gave me my very first small pocketknife. I will always remember him as the kind, funny, and extremely intelligent guy he was. I am very sorry for your loss.
