John J. Chek, 81, of New Philadelphia, died Wednesday, June 05, 2002, at South Broadway Nursing Home.Born March 15, 1921 in Roswell, Ohio, he was the son of the late Mike and Helen Talaber Chek. John was employed at Shennango-Penn Mold and retired after working for 41 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during W.W. II. He also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, a life time member of VFW Post # 1445 in New Philadelphia and a member of Post # 3463 in Dover, AM Vets, and New Philadelphia Eagles Lodge.Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Dorothy McKerrihan Chek, of the home, whom he married April 16, 1949; three daughters, Brenda (David) Vitt of New Philadelphia, JoAnn (Kenny) Trimmer of Dennison, Darlene (Les) Baker of Barberton; one son, Gregory (Kim) Chek of Dover; seven grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; 1 step-grandchild; two sisters, Goldie (Walter) Davis and Helen (Don) Kamban both of New Philadelphia.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Albert “Abe” Chek.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2002, at 1:30 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home, in New Philadelphia, with Elder Glenn R. Carlisle officiating and Rev. David Bryan Co-officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park, at New Philadelphia, with military rites presented by New Philadelphia VFW Post # 1445. Visitation will be held Friday, June 7, from 5-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. Third Street, Dover, Ohio, 44622.
