James E. Forstrom

James E. Forstrom, 92, of Dover, passed away Monday, January 10, 2022, in Cleveland Clinic-Union Hospital at Dover.

Born at Dover, he was the son of the late John E. and Hazel E. (Swinderman) Forstrom. A veteran having enlisted at the age of 17, he served with the United States Army as a peacekeeper in General McArthur’s Headquarters at Tokyo, Japan after the end of hostilities during World War II. After returning to the states, Jim embarked on a long career in the meat cutting industry with a number of stores. Eventually, he retired in 2005 at the age of 75 from Rodhe’s IGA Supercenter at Millersburg after 37 years of service.

A born again Christian and a man of faith, Jim was a member of Roxford United Methodist Church at Dennison where he also served as an usher. He was also an avid golfer and an accomplished harmonica player.

On June 8, 1951, Jim married the former Barbara L. Wise and together they shared over 70 years of marriage before his passing. Also surviving is his daughter, Lynn Ann (Mark) Keener of Dover; his son, Michael J. (Cindy) Forstrom of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, David (Cindy) Keener of Dover, Eric (Rachel) Keener of Dublin and Kara Lynn (Jeremy) Rodgers of New Philadelphia and six great -grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, an infant son, David Forstrom; three brothers, Ben Forstrom, Robert Forstrom and Jack Forstrom and a sister, Ruth Strictmaker also preceded him in death.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 17, 2022 from 10 to 11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia where a service celebrating James’s life will begin at 11 AM with Pastor Ron Heasley officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445 will provide military honors.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Roxford United Methodist Church, 771 Roxford Church Road SE, Dennison, Ohio 44621.
