Henry Franklin Hicks

H. F. “FRANK” HICKS, 85, died peacefully in his New Philadelphia home early Friday evening, July 19, 2002. Frank was born April 4, 1917 in Lindauer, Tennessee to the late William H. and Jennie L. Corpman Hicks and, along with his family, moved to New Philadelphia when he was three years old. On March 31, 1942, Frank married the former Stella Mildred “Ann” Kiriluk, with whom he recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. During World War II, Frank served honorably with the U. S. Army. Frank founded Hicks Roofing Company of New Philadelphia in 1948, a business his family still operates. A life-long member of the First Christian Church, Frank served as a church elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and chairman of the church board. He also was a member of the Ohio Historical Society and the New Philadelphia Elks’ Lodge No. 510. Frank enjoyed bowling and was the senior member and sponsor of the Hicks Brothers Bowling Team. After retirement, Frank enjoyed spending time with his family and especially sitting on the balcony with Ann overlooking the valley. Besides his parents, his oldest sister, Mary Farrell, preceded Frank in death. In addition to Ann, Frank is survived by his children, Dennis (Peggy) Hicks, Dawn (Fred) Kinsey and Dwain (Elizabeth) Hicks, all of New Philadelphia; siblings, Evelyn Moore of Columbus, William (Ellen) Hicks, Lester (Jean) Hicks, Ward (Betty) Hicks, Virgil (Waneta) Hicks, Foster (Roberta) Hicks and Grace (Tom) Kollar, all of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Mike (Beth) Hicks, Ryan (Naomi) Hicks, Jim (Lara) Hicks and Michelle (Mark) Hughes, Ben (Erin) Kinsey, Fred, Justin, and Kim Kinsey and Laura (Jesse) Henary, Jon Hicks, Joe (Kim) Hicks and Juiliet, Phillip and Andy Hicks; eight great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Gerald Ferrell. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, 1:00 to 3:00 PM and with the family present from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 10:00 AM in the First Christian Church, 104 Third St., NW at the corner of West High Avenue in New Philadelphia, with visitation one-hour prior. Pastor Jim Borton will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park. After the committal, everyone is invited to gather at the church for a meal. Contributions honoring Frank’s life may be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. Third St., Dover, OH 44622.
