Harry C. Porter, 80, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, August 22, 2002 at union Hospital in Dover, following an extended illness.Born in Homeworth, he was the son of the late Raymond and Ellen Thomas Porter. He was a 1939 graduate of Alliance High School and a graduate of Indiana Technical School with a degree in civil engineering. Harry was a W.W.II veteran having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a Fighter Pilot flying a P-47 with the 514th fighter squadron of the 406th fighter group in Europe.A Professional engineer and professional surveyor, he had retired in 1979 from the Ohio Department of Transportation where he worked as an engineer and served as head of the testing department. Harry was also a fifty-year member of the F. & A. M. Lodge #499 in Homeworth, Ohio.Surviving is his wife, Juinona J. “Noni” Olin whom he married May 21, 1948. Two daughters, Gretchen (William) Hrusovsky of Cortland and Jill (Mike) Lengler of Dover and five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Josellen and William Hrusovsky and Sam and Callie Lengler.Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at 10 AM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Rev. Glen Shedlock officiating. A Committal service will be held at Moultrie Cemetery in New Franklin, Ohio at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be held Monday, August 26, 2002 from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 West Third Street, Dover, Ohio, 44622 or Union Hospital Capital Fund, 659 Boulevard, Dover, Ohio, 44622.
