Grace Pennington Knisely

June 22, 1913 — February 22, 2003

Grace Pennington Knisely, 89, of Dover, passed away Saturday Feb. 22, 2003 in Union Hospital after a brief illness. Born June 22, 1913 in Crestview Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Jacob & Ida Pennington. She moved to New Philadelphia in 1928 and graduated from New Philadelphia High in 1931. She was married to Paul Knisely on Sept. 15, 1934 and celebrated 64 years of marriage before his passing in 1999. She and her husband operated Boulevard Lanes in Dover until her retirement in 1965. Grace was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, a former member & past president of the Beta Gamma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and was also inducted into the local Bowlers Hall of Fame. During World War II she did volunteer work for the ration board, the Red Cross and was a frequent worker at the Dennison Canteen. She was an avid bridge player, gardner and belonged to several local clubs & organizations. Surviving are a son, John and his wife Sharon of Cincinnati and a sister Amy Becker of New Philadelphia. She also had a close relationship with her many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, three sisters and three brothers also preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 26, 2003 at 10:30 AM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia with Pastor Mike Walters officiating. Burial will be at Fair Street Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2003 from 4 to 7 PM in the funeral home.
