George E. Richardson

GEORGE E. RICHARDSON, 75, of New Philadelphia, died at his home on Monday, February 11, 2002. He was born in Dover to the late George Henry and Alice Wilson Richardson on June 6, 1926 and attended Dover High School. After high school, George entered the U. S. Army where he served honorably from 1944 to 1946. For many years, George has served the 348th Engineers Battalion as executive secretary, helping form their reunions nationwide. He was a bricklayer and had received his fifty-year gold card from Local No. 6 in Canton. George was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he shared a good friendship with Fr. Robert Manning. He served as a church usher for twenty years, and belonged to church’s senior citizens group. He was also a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. George was a life-member of the New Philadelphia VFW Post 1445. For many years, George was active in area Little League Baseball with his sons. An avid golfer, George will be missed by his friends at Five Waters Golf Course. He is survived by his wife, Bessie L. Fanti Richardson, whom he married August 9, 1958; sons, Mark A. and fiancé Michelle Rotondo of Sherrodsville; Larry L. “Ernie” Richardson and Robert G. “Billy Bob” Richardson both of New Philadelphia; grandsons, Joseph J. Richardson of Sherrodsville; Monte Lee Richardson of Gnadenhutten; John C. Richardson of New Philadelphia; and Kody Hidey of Sherrodsville; sisters, Virginia Franz, Mary Jane Burris; and his brother, Edgar Richardson; several nieces and nephews also survive as well as two family cats, “Ranger” and “Friday”. The funeral mass will be Friday, February 15, 2002 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. George J. Schlegel as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia, with military rites presented by VFW Post 1445. A reception will be held in St. Ambrose Hall at the church following the committal. Calling hours will be on Thursday, February 14, 2002 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with the wake service at 7:30 PM.
