Fredrick T. Fantine, 72, of Dover, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022 under the care of New Dawn Nursing Home and Community Hospice following a period of declining health.

Born in Dover on September 22, 1950, Fred was the son of the late Daniel E. and Ruth I. (Price) Fantine of Midvale.

He was a 1968 graduate of Indian Valley North High School and enjoyed playing baseball and basketball during his high school years.

Fred was a member of the U.S. Army and was stationed in Long Binh during the Viet Nam War. He was a life member of the New Philadelphia VFW. He was also a retired employee of Greer Steel. Fred enjoyed being a member of the Bear Schwartz Racing Crew at the Midvale Speedway. He was a collector of Fenton glassware and had a large collection at one time. He was also one of the polenta stirrers at St. Paul’s in Midvale. And, of course, Fred was a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

He will be sadly missed by his sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Don Wemple of New Philadelphia; his niece, Kim (Tim) Martin of Strasburg; his great-niece, Olivia Martin of Strasburg; his great-nephew, Nick Martin of Strasburg; and aunt, Mary Ourant; and cousins.

Father Jeff Coning will officiate a memorial service at Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Saturday, November 12, 2022 beginning at 2 p.m. with visitation one hour prior in the funeral home chapel.  Inurnment will immediately follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.

Fred’s family wishes to express a special thanks to the staffs at New Dawn and Community Hospice for the care extended by them.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
