August 15, 1925 — September 27, 2022

Frances Nadine (Miller) Shaffer, 97, of Venice, Florida, and formerly New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in her home on September 27, 2022.

Born in Coshocton County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Richard and Frances Gertrude (Hiltner) Miller.

Frances was raised in Canton, Ohio, and graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1943, where she played the trombone in the marching band.

After graduation, she worked for the Timken Company. At the age of 22, she married Kenneth Karl Shaffer. They were married 39 years prior to his death.

They pastored at two churches, the first was the Assemblies of God Church in Marlboro, OH for five years, and the last was at the First Assemblies of God Church in New Philadelphia for 29 years. Frances supported her husband in many roles as a pastor’s wife. Frances worked in the office, was the choir director, played the piano, organ, and trombone, and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. She also led the Missionettes Group for young girls of the church.

Frances served with her husband in two Tuscarawas County Infirmary Chaplin ministries for 18 years. They held Sunday services at the county homes on a regular basis. After Kenneth’s passing, Frances worked at Bayshore Nursing Home in Nokomis, FL, where she worked in the kitchen.

Frances is survived by two daughters, Carol Shaffer, and Janice Fensler; her son, Kenneth Shaffer; a granddaughter, Brooke Bell; three grandsons, Kenneth Shaffer, Benjamin Fensler, and Joseph Fensler; three great-grandchildren; Raegan, Katelyn, and Jackson Bell; two nephews, Lowell, and Trenton Miller: and a sister-in-law Dorothy Heddelson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Frances was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Miller in 2003.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022, at 10:30 AM in the North Lawn Cemetery, 4927 Cleveland Ave., Canton, Ohio.
