F. Norman Aebersold, age 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2008 in New Dawn Nursing Home at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born October 24, 1934 in Dover, Ohio, he was the son of the late Fredrick John and Clara (Hendrich) Aebersold.

Norm graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1953 where he played on the defensive line of the 1950 undefeated football team. After high school, Norm joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country from 1957 to 1959. Norm then worked for a brief period of time at Pepsi and also The Timken Company.

Blind dates turned out to be successful for Norm after meeting his wife on one, the late Anne B. Aebersold, who preceded him in death on June 7 of this year. Together, they celebrated 46 years of marriage on November 25, 2007.

Much of Norm’s life was spent in Pasadena, California where he and Anne raised their three children, David, Brett and Jenny. He was a coach for the Pasadena Little League for more than 10 years. He was also a well-respected service station owner in the community for 23 years. After retirement in 1994, Anne wanted to return to Ohio, and Norm agreed. Not only was the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia where he married his wife, but it was also the church he spent the last 14 years actively participating in as an usher and also a member of the Church Council. His warm greeting and friendly smile will be missed by all of his friends there. He also enjoyed participating in a water aerobics class at the Tuscarawas County Y.M.C.A. with Anne and keeping up with his hobbies including golf, fishing, and talking on the CB radio to people throughout the country.

Norm is survived by his three children, David (wife, Christal) of Moorpark, California, Brett (wife, Corinne) of Ashland, Ohio and Jenny Aebersold of New Philadelphia. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Brandyn Aebersold, and Kaitlyn and Brenden Aebersold; and two nephews, Thomas (wife, Barb) Frohnapfel and Billy (wife, Bonnie) Frohnapfel; and numerous dear friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Norm was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Frohnapfel; and a young brother, Johnny.

Friends and family are invited to celebrate Norm’s life in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia on Wednesday, September 10 beginning at 2 p.m. with Dr. Steven Bailey officiating the Memorial Service. The church family will host a dessert reception in the fellowship hall immediately following the service. Private family inurnment will take place in Maple Grove Cemetery at Dover.
