Eleanor Ann Lieser

August 18, 1936 — August 30, 2021

Eleanor Ann Lieser, 85, of Dover passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2021 in Park Village Health Care at Dover following a brief illness.

A daughter of the late Alvin F. Buehler and Verna M. (Winkler) Buehler, Eleanor was born August 18, 1936 in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

Eleanor graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1954, and, over the years, she remained close with her classmates and especially enjoyed planning class reunions and reminiscing during class lunches. She met her future husband, Jack E. Lieser, while she was working as a receptionist for Joy Manufacturing at New Philadelphia. Eleanor married Jack in 1965 and spent a lifetime ensuring that her entire family was well cared for and well loved. She and Jack had countless adventures traveling and fishing together and built a home that they love and continue to live in.

Eleanor was an active lifetime member of the First United Church of Christ at New Philadelphia where she was baptized and taught Sunday School for many years. Eleanor also volunteered as a librarian, classroom aide, room mother, 4-H Mom and a band parent while her children attended Tusky Valley Schools.

Eleanor was a devoted, gentle and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt, friend, and wife. She also was an avid gardener, sewing expert, talented crafts person, fantastic cook and made the most beautiful and delicious cookies. Eleanor adored her grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was lovingly known to them as “Grandma Playdoh” as she spent countless hours at the kitchen table with the children playing card games, crafting, modeling Playdoh and coloring.

Eleanor’s smile, laughter, hugs, and sweet personality will be profoundly missed, and her legacy of gentleness will live on through our memories.

Eleanor is survived by her husband, Jack E. Lieser of Dover, daughter, Kendal (Krishna) Purohit of Rocky River and son, Matthew (Michele) Lieser of New Philadelphia. In addition, Eleanor has four grandchildren; Lauren, Emmaline, Seth and Ella.

In keeping with Eleanor’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and a private family service at home will be held to celebrate Eleanor’s love.

Contributions may be made in Eleanor’s memory to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663, or to The First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Ave NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
