Dorothy Theresa Wyrie, formerly of New Castle, PA, died of a sudden illness at Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio, on March 2, 2003. Dorothy fought a courageous battle against rheumatoid arthritis for decades. She celebrated her 80th birthday at a family gathering at New Dawn Health Care Center last June.She was born in Ford City, PA, in June of 1922, to the late John and Helen Palko. Dorothy lived most of her life in New Castle, PA, and worked at the Shenango Pottery where she met her husband, Glenn Wyrie. They were married in Lisbon, OH, and celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary before he preceded her in death in 1986.Dorothy also worked for many years in the family business at Pearson Glass and later was a cashier at Rocky’s Market on West Washington Street.She and Glenn had one child, John B. (Jack) Wyrie of New Philadelphia, OH. Due to failing health, Dorothy moved to New Philadelphia in 1995 to be closer to her son and daughter-in-law, Pauline, who survive. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Deanna Brennan and husband Tom of Massillon, Ohio, and Darren Wyrie of Gainsville, Georgia. Three great-grandchildren also survive: Zac Wyrie of Gainesville, Georgia, and Erica and Jared Brennan of Massillon, Ohio.Dorothy was the eldest of three sisters and a brother, all of whom survive: Genevieve Lutz of Massillon, Ohio, Evelyn Hemphill of Waynesville, North Carolina, Lillian Barber and husband James of New Castle, Pennsylvania, and John Palko and wife Jane also of New Castle, Pennsylvania.Friends may call Tuesday, March 4, 2003 from 3 to 4 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Additional visiting hours in New Castle, PA, have been scheduled for Wednesday, March 5 from 11 to 1 PM at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 South Mill Street, New Castle, PA. A funeral service honoring her life will be held after visitation at 1 PM followed by entombment in Castle View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, New Castle, PA.In honor of Dorothy’s life and service to her church, memorial contributions may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, West Washington St., New Castle, PA, 16101 or to the Arthritic Foundation.
