Clarence Irvin

CLARENCE “Irv” IRVIN, 86, of New Philadelphia, died Sunday evening, December 15, 2002 at Morning View Care Center. Irv was born May 9, 1916 at Ralphton, PA to the late Frank W. and Ethel Weld Irvin. He graduated from Toronto (OH) High School. During World War II, Irv served honorably with the U. S. Army from 1942 to 1945. On October 25, 1946, he married Ruth Anna Cummings, who preceded him in death on July 12, 1999. The couple moved to New Philadelphia in 1954. Irv retired in 1979 after 32 years with the U. S. Army Corps. Of Engineers, Huntington district, Muskingum area office as an electrician. Along with his wife, Irv was a member of the First Christian Church of New Philadelphia where he was an elder emeritus. Irv was a life-member of New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445. He also was a member of the former Orange Lodge, F. & A. M. at Leesville, the N. A. R. F. E., A. A. R. P. and the N. R. A. With Ruth by his side, the couple enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling together. At age 85, Irv traveled once again to Australia. He is survived by brothers, Frank Irvin of Elk Grove, CA; Harry and Jim Irvin of Rialto, CA; and Charles Irvin of Denver, CO; a sister, Elizabeth (Dale) Obendorfer of Mt. Holly, NJ; nieces and nephews, Dick (Joann) Cummings of Dennison; Dick (Barbara) Irvin of New Philadelphia; Mike Cummings of Dennison; Janey (Bill) Wallace and George Irvin, both of Toronto, OH; Don (Marie) Irvin of Lakebay, WA; and Sue McGarvey of Poughkeepsie, NY; great nieces and nephews, Rick (Deb) Cummings of Bowerston; Shawn (Randy) Cummings of Tuscarawas; Tamila (Rich) Best of Dennison; Bridget & Brad Irvin of New Philadelphia; Michael Paul Cummings of Dennison; Shelley (Mike) Balogh of Dover; and Tanika (Bob) Gastaldo of Uhrichsville; great-great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Cummings of Dennison. In addition to his parents and wife, Irv was preceded in death by a brother, Les Irvin. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, December 18, 2002 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia, where the funeral will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Jim Borton officiating. Burial, alongside his wife, will follow at Evergreen Burial Park, with military honors presented by New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445. After the committal, a reception will be given in the First Christian Church, 104 Third St., NW Contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 104 Third St., NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
