Chelsie F. Shuman, age 88, of Strasburg and formerly of Baltic, went to be with the Lord early Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Born in Rittman, Ohio on August 20, 1933, Chelsie was a daughter of the late Garland H. and Abigail Blanton Jackson.

Chelsie was a graduate of Cambridge High School. As a young lady, she met and fell in love with Robert Shuman who was also born on August 20, 1933. On their 21st birthday, the couple married and together had eight children and shared in 67 years of marriage.

Chelsie had a deep devotion to the Lord and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ at New Philadelphia. She loved music and greatly enjoyed playing the piano and organ as well as singing and in high school was a member of the band, where she played drums and cymbals. In her free time, she enjoyed sewing and crafting. Those who knew her were well aware of her love for talking on the phone with family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Chelsie is survived by seven children, Robert (Linda) Shuman of Gnadenhutten, William (Bonnie) Shuman of Maryland, Timothy (Sherri) Shuman of Baltic, Stephanie (Bob) Roth of Strasburg, Kenneth (Missy) Shuman of New Philadelphia, Kathyrn (David) Exline of Hanoverton, and Carolyn (Greg) Evans of Brimfield.

Completing the family are a sister, Dorothy (Herbert) Dickens of Kentucky, 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Chelsie was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Shuman; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian (John) Carson and Jo Ann (James) Humphress, and 3 grandchildren.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, from 4 – 7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Chelsie’s life will be led by Caleb Conley and Tim Hatfield on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in the funeral home’s chapel at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery. A meal and fellowship will follow the services in the social hall of the Church of Christ.

Memorial contributions in Chelsie’s name may be directed to the Church of Christ 749 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.

Michael and I are praying for the family during this time and in the days to come. Chelsie was always smiling and welcoming to all she came in contact with. Our Lord and His angels have welcomed her home!

Chelsie Shuman allowed me to be a part of their family each and every week during my early teen years. Stephanie taught me about God and salvation and Chelsie and Bob took me to church with them. At the time my parents weren't Christians. Chelsie treated me like one her own children and I'll always be grateful for the goodness of her Christian heart.

On behalf of my Mom, Janet Doak, I would like to express that her friendship and phone calls to Mom will be missed greatly! They have shared many conversations over the years and visits to Park Village over the past few years. Such a kind and thoughtful friend to my Mom!

Dear family, I will always remember the jokes that Chelsie would tell. How she loved to tell a story. The long telephone conversations that we would have together and the times we shared together at the reunions, our Shuman shindigs where laughter, tears, and and songs rang out. Always singing always! and praises to our Lord and Savior. We will see her again in the future. My prayers are with you all. She will be missed.

Chelsea was such a sweet and thoughtful person. When my Maddie got her glasses in elementary school Chelsea and Bob were visiting. She told her how pretty she was and made getting glasses a good day. Mom will miss their nightly late phone calls and singing and praying through the phone. She helped Mom get through her loneliest hours. They always looked forward to her and Bob's visits. So thankful for a visit recently and they were both sweet as ever. Bless you and may the Lord give you comfort and strength in the days ahead. -Lulla Belle "Doodle" & Sam Morgan and family
