Charles Walter “Chuck” Hunter, 66, of Port Washington, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2020 following a courageous battle with cancer.

A son of the late Ervin and Anna (Strimbu) Hunter, Chuck was born April 7, 1954 at Dover, Ohio

Chuck was an avid antique dealer and he was highly regarded for his knowledge and expertise. He also played a vital role for Advocates for Success along with his wife, Nancy.

He dedicated his life to helping others and could always find a way to make a difference in their lives. Chuck dearly loved and cared for many people over the years but more importantly, those people truly felt and understood his love for them.

Chuck’s compassion didn’t end with people. He deeply loved animals also and throughout his life he cared for and rescued many.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy (McAbier) Hunter whom he married on August 20, 1983; his sisters, Mary (Chris) Jacobs and Linda Hunter; many nieces and nephews as well as three people who were very special to Chuck, his niece, Elizabeth McAbier and Elizabeth Lippencott and Jason Fickes along with many other special friends.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, James and David Hunter.

In keeping with Chuck’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held. A public celebration will be held at a later date.

Contributions may be made in Chuck’s memory to Advocates for Success, 638 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or to Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Road NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

I will always remember Chuck from high school. We called him "Hunter." Everbody liked Hunter, he was a great guy and very "cool" as we used to say.

Hunter Family: I was saddened to learn of Chuck's untimely passing. Chuck was a high school friend, and I always enjoyed running in to him, and talking, as years went on. He was such a friendly, kind, and upbeat person with a great smile! Always willing to help others, he helped me go through furniture, military items, etc. to identify things to keep/sell when my parents died. He was a great person! May your fond memories bring you peace.

My brother and I met Chuck through our babysitter, Kelly, when she thought it would be fun to take us to see all of his rescue pets. We immediately loved him and spending time at his house in Port Washington. Hanging out with Chuck quickly became one of our favorite things to do both summers that she watched us. We loved seeing his dogs, learning about antiques, playing in the creek behind his house, and just hanging out on the porch. Chuck was a very kind, funny, and all around special guy. He will surely live on in my dearest childhood memories. My thoughts are with Nancy and everyone who loved Chuck.

Dear Nancy - It was a shame that we did not get to know Chuck better than we did. But in the time we did come in contact, we knew he was a kind and gentle man. A friend once told me that you know the kind of individual a person was in life by how many lives that they touched during that life. If the messages that you are getting are any indication he touched a lot. Our hearts go out to you and Chucks family. May he now Rest In Peace

We will miss him so much. He has been a special and true friend to our family for so many years I can’t remember him not being there for us. He was truly an angel to everyone that he met and all those animals that he took such care of. Most people will never have a friend, we considered family, in their lifetime like Chuck. We were the lucky ones. Nancy my heart goes out to you and I pray God gives you strength to get through this. His love for you is so pure and true. Although his life was cut short he truly used every day to benefit others. He will be so greatly missed. All my love and prayers.
