Mary Catherine “Cathy” Schwarm, 69, of Dover, was called home to be with her Lord on October 4, 2019 in Aultman Hospital at Canton following a short battle with cancer.

Born in Canton on December 31, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary J. (Crawshaw) Ferren and her step-mother, Gladys Ferren.

After graduating from Canton South High School in 1967, Cathy began her professional career with Timken Company where she was a comptometer operator. She then was employed with Reliable Auto, NAPA Auto Parts, and ultimately spent the majority of her career for more than 25 years with Wayne Dalton – Rolling Door Division.

Cathy met her husband of nearly 50 years, David A. Schwarm, Sr., at the North Industry Christian Church and after five months of dating, were married on October 25, 1969.

Together, they were longtime members of the North Industry Christian Church before moving to Dover in 1994, where they became active members of Dover First Christian Church. Cathy was passionate about serving the youth of the church, playing the piano, and assisting with any and all special events there.

She was also an avid sports fan, whether it was watching a team on television or in person, coaching her son’s soccer team, or sharpening her statistical knowledge. Cathy was very fond of the Cleveland sports teams and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Colleting teddy bears and sheet music was a hobby Cathy enjoyed also.

She will be deeply missed by her family including her husband, David Sr.; her children, Tricia (Edward) Long, Jr., and David Schwarm, Jr.; her grandchildren, Alexanderia Sugalski and Kaitlin Long; her grandpuppy, Juliet; her siblings, Carol Hanson and Barb (Fred) Cush; her step-sisters, Shirley Chaney and Marcia McGill; and her sisters-in-law, Rebecca Randolph and Rachel (Rick) Johnston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her infant sister, Jacqueline Ferren.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 in the Dover First Christian Church, 3029 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, from 11 to 1 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. A service celebrating Cathy’s life will be led by Pastor Josh Robinson beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Cremation will be conducted following the service and inurnment will follow at a later date in Dover Burial Park.

Memorial contributions in Cathy’s memory may be directed to the Dover First Christian Church.

My heart is broken, hearing the news of Cathy's passing. Was such a loving and caring person. She was unreplaceable help for me, at Recital time. I will cherish my memories of her always. May the Lord wrap her in his arms and welcome her, into his Kingdom!

My condolences to Cathy's family. I used to work with Cathy at The Timken Co. in the late 1960's. She was a wonderful person. May she rest in peace.

Cathy was so caring, kind, and selfless. We will never forget when she added Christmas music to the worship on the Sunday after Bryce graduated from boot camp because he was not home for his favorite holiday. Or all of the help for me, Bryce, and my brothers graduation parties. She gave so much time and effort to every special event at the church and we will miss hearing her play piano every Sunday. Our prayers and deepest condolences are with David, and the rest of the family. We are so sorry for your loss.

Prayers for the family. Did not know Cathy was ill. Loved seeing her on Facebook. I have fond memories of her. One memory is when she and I went to see John Davidson sing back around 1967. Had a great time. Considered her a cousin when her dad married my aunt. She is rejoicing with our Lord now!
