Carol L. Starkey, 75, of Dover, passed away August 4, 2021, in Walnut Hills Nursing Home following a period of declining health.
Born in New Philadelphia on June 26, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel Decima and Theresa Margaret (Destefani) Mattevi.

Carol L. Starkey, 75, of Dover, passed away August 4, 2021, in Walnut Hills Nursing Home following a period of declining health.
Born in New Philadelphia on June 26, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Gabriel Decima and Theresa Margaret (Destefani) Mattevi.
After graduating from St. Joseph High School in Dover, Carol married her husband of 52 years, Kenneth Eugene Starkey, on August 2, 1969.
Carol will be remembered for her gift of taking care of others. She was a loving babysitter for 20 years to many children whom she fondly referred to as her “kids”. When they entered her home, the kids and their families became part of her family. Carol was also a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church in New Philadelphia.
Carol will be deeply missed by her husband, Ken; children, Greg Starkey of New Philadelphia and Sheri (Darrick) Hummel of Berlin; her granddaughters, Eva and Emma Hummel; siblings, Margaret Ann Roth of Tuscarawas, Gabriel “Bud” (Ruth) Mattevi of New Philadelphia, Dan (Kay) Mattevi of Dover and Chris (Dutch) Basiletti of Massillon; her close friend, Ruth (Louis) Fantin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in passing by her brother-in-law, Doyle Roth.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Friday, August 6, 2021 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a wake service beginning at 7:45 p.m. Fathers Jeff Coning and Edward Keck will concelebrate a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Heart Church on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia. A meal will be shared in the church parish hall following the committal service.
Memorial contributions in Carol’s memory may be directed to Sacred Heart Church, 139 3rd St NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Carol will forever be in our hearts. She cared for Max, Jimmy and Jenna like they were her own and loved them like her own. She was a huge part in making them the wonderful adults they are today and we gladly share the credit for that with her. So many great memories! Love and prayers.
