Bruce A. Mumma

November 28, 1965 — March 9, 2012

Bruce A. Mumma, age 46, of Dover passed away peacefully early Friday evening, in his home, following a lengthy illness.

Born at Dover November 28, 1965, he was the youngest of three children born to Erma Irene Mizer Mumma and the late Simon Peter Mumma, Jr.

Bruce will be remembered for his broad grin and the ability to smile using both his eyes and mouth. Together with his brother, Dale and mother, he operated Mumma Farms of Dover and Stone Creek.

As a young man, Bruce enjoyed 4-H, and for many years went on to show his prize tomatoes at the county fair, and participate in the activities of the former Brandywine Grange. He was a 1984 graduate of Dover High School and Buckeye Career Center where he was active in the Future Farmers of America.

Ever a hard worker, Bruce was a fourth generation to operate the family farm that was founded more than a century ago by his great-grandparents George and Tillie Zahner Spies. In a rare moment of spare time, Bruce could be found hunting, trapping, splitting firewood, gardening, photography and traveling with his mother to toy shows.

Survivors, in addition to his mother and brother, who reside on the farm, include a sister, Carol (husband, David) Smith of Smithville, and their two children, Matthew and Stephanie Smith.

Aunts Ruth (husband Ted) Loessi of Dover and Mary (Don) Carruthers of Berea and Wilma Mizer of Dover, also survive. Numerous cousins complete the family.

Bruce is preceded in death by his father, “Junior” Mumma, an uncle Clyde Mizer, and his maternal grandparents Harry and Lillian Harmon Mizer and his paternal grandparents Simon P. and Erma M. Spies Mumma.

Friends are invited to call Monday from 4-7 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Pastor Brian Flood will officiate funeral services for Bruce Tuesday at Noon.

Burial will follow in Stone Creek Cemetery.

Following the committal service, family and friends will gather for a reception in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.

The Mumma family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Johns United Church of Christ, or to Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, in gratitude for their exemplary care.
