Bonnie Kay Mackey

Bonnie Kay Doidge Mackey, age 61, of Sherrodsville, died early Monday morning, December 22, 2008, in Union Hospital at Dover, following a brief illness. Born at Dover, September 6, 1947, she was a daughter of the late William and Erma Shilling Doidge. A 1966 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Bonnie received her degree in Education, with a concentration in literature, from Marietta College.Beginning in 1971, Bonnie spent twenty-five years in the English department at Dover High School. During her career, she was known for her above and beyond devotion to the betterment of her students. She advised the former debate club, served as the advisor for freshmen cheerleaders, and for several years, advised students in the preparation and publication of the high school yearbook. Bonnie was a member and past president of the Dover Education Association. She leaves behind a family that includes her sister, Patt (husband Glenn) Geib of New Philadelphia, a nephew; Greg (wife Sandy) Geib of New Philadelphia, two nieces; Tricia (husband Tim) Zahner of Mineral City, and June (husband Randy) Pollock of Kimbolton. A close friend and cousin, Barbara (husband Fred) Meiser of New Philadelphia, two great-nephews; Zachary and Logan Geib, and two dachshunds; Bubbles and Nellie, complete the family. In addition to her parents, Bonnie is preceded in death by her special friend and former husband; Rick Mackey, and her brother; David Doidge. The Rev. Dr. Steven Bailey will lead a 6 PM memorial service for Mrs. Mackey on Monday, January 5, 2009, in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. A dessert reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home’s website. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Tuscarawas County Dog Pound, 441 University Drive NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio, 44663.
