Barbara E. Tufford

Barbara E. Tufford, 79, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, March 7, 2002 at Aultman Hospital in Canton following an extended illness.

Born August 3, 1922 in Bangor, County of Down in Northern Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Montgomery Moffett.

She was a homemaker for many years and had retired from the former Endres Floral Shop in New Philadelphia. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia and enjoyed reading and walking in Tuscora Park.

On October 16, 1944, she married Lt. William E. Tufford in Helen’s Bay, Bangor, Northern Ireland while he was stationed in Northern Ireland with the United States Navy during W.W.II. William preceded her in death on June 21, 1975.

Surviving are two daughters, Brenda (Steve) Jenkins and Maureen (James) Herman and a son, William R. Tufford all of New Philadelphia; three sisters, Olive Campbell and Eileen Moffett both of Northern Ireland and Winnie Carlisle of England; and five grandchildren, Aaron and Stephanie Jenkins and Sean, Ryan and Elizabeth Herman. Two sisters and a brother are also deceased.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 10, 2002 at 4:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia with Rev. Mike Seely officiating. The family will receive friends following the services at the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia. A private family graveside service will be held Monday.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 4916 Hills and Dales Road NW, Canton, OH 44708.
