June 5, 1928 — December 1, 2018

Arthur William Sickinger, 90, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in the Community Hospice Truman House on Saturday, December 1, 2018.

Born in Tuscarawas on June 5, 1928, he was the son of the late William Huebert and Isabella Helen (Benner) Sickinger. After completing his formal education, Art honorably served his country in the United States Army.

Art was employed at Gradall, Reeves Steel, and a variety of clay plants throughout his professional career. He ultimately owned and operated A-1 Parts Supply before retiring. One thing he enjoyed for more than 70 years was flying. He greatly enjoyed talking about his planes and the many stories throughout his aviation career.

He was a 32nd degree mason with the Jaffa Shrine Mountain Lodge #281 F. & A. M. in Altoona, Pennsylvania, and was a member of the Scottish Rite bodies. Art was also a life member of the Tusco Rifle Club and a founding member of EEA Chapter 1077 of New Philadelphia.

On June 7, 1952, he married her lifelong companion and friend, the late Rhoda Jane Sickinger, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage prior to her passing. Together, they enjoyed preparing Thanksgiving and Christmas turkey dinners. They also worshipped at the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia.
Art is survived by his children, Ann (Tom) West of Dundee, Alan (Diane) Sickinger and Mark (Barbara) Sickinger, both of New Philadelphia, and Eric Sickinger of Dover; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his brother, Bill (Linda) Sickinger of Delaware, OH.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in passing by his two sisters, Dorothy Sickinger and Sara Rich; and one brother, Robert Sickinger.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 1 to 2 PM with a service beginning at 2 PM. Cremation will follow through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory.
