Anna Lou “Annie” Giles, 90, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully in Park Village Healthcare Center at Dover on Sunday, December 20, 2020, following a period of declining health.

Born in Dover on July 13, 1930, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Frances (Waldick) Menges. After graduating from Dover High School, she continued her formal education at Akron City Hospital School of Nursing.

Annie married her late husband, Dr. Raymond B. “Ray” Giles, on June 16, 1966. Annie worked as a surgical nurse with Union Hospital for 15 years prior to working alongside her husband in their family practice. She ended her nursing career with her daughter and son-in-law at The Occupational Medicine Center of Tuscarawas County.

Annie’s faith was nurtured at First Christian Church in her earlier years where she served as a preschool teacher and sang in the church choir. More recently, she attended Faith Christian Church at New Philadelphia. She volunteered her time with Community Hospice and the Dover Historical Society in addition to her church activities. Most importantly, she was a dear friend, devoted grandmother, mother and wife, and a child of God.

Annie is survived by her daughters, Patty (Terry) Cotterman of Dover and Barb (Dr. Nicholas) Varrati of Atwood Lake; her grandchildren, David (Alli) Thompson and their children, Katlyn, Kaden, Carter, Christian, Camron, and Karli Thompson, Katherine and Christine Varrati, and Nicholas Varrati, IV; her brother, David (Vicki) Menges; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her mother and father, Annie was preceded in death her husband, Dr. Raymond B. “Ray” Giles; her son, Perry Giles; and her daughter, Susan Rae “Susy” Giles.

Memorial contributions in Annie’s name may be directed to Faith Christian Church or Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 716 Commercial Ave SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.

Cremation care has been entrusted to Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory and inurnment will follow at Dover Burial Park.

Oh Annie! Such a sweet lady! You will truly be missed by your park village girls! We weren’t family but being an aide and taking care of someone they feel like part of your family. When I had days off and came back to work she would always point her finger at me to come here, I’d go over and she would say “oh where have you been” With her eyes lite up and a big smile on her face and the hug she gave. I enjoyed my time with you, I will miss you RIP Annie
