Obituary

William Edward "Ed" Whitt, 69, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully at his home on June 7, 2026.

Born on November 1, 1956, in Massillon, Ohio, Ed was the son of the late Georgia M. (Kegley) Whitt and Alvin T. Whitt.

In 1975, he married his loving wife, Deborah (Hostetler) Whitt, who survives. Together they shared 51 years of marriage.

Ed honorably served his country in the United States Army.

Ed spent nearly 20 years working at Hercules Engines in Canton before continuing his career at various body shops throughout the area. Following a back injury, he retired from the workforce. Although retirement ended his professional career, it never diminished his lifelong passion for automobiles.

Cars were truly Ed's life. He seemed to know just about everything there was to know about them. He fixed cars, bought and sold cars, collected them, read about them, and never missed an opportunity to talk about them with anyone willing to listen. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and love for automobiles were well known to family, friends, and acquaintances alike.

In addition to his wife, Ed leaves behind two sons, Eddie (Gretchen) Whitt and Jeremy Whitt, both of Canton; his granddaughter, Kayla Whitt of Canton; one brother, Tom (Pam) Whitt of Strasburg; two sisters, Ellen (Mike) Wachtel of Shreve and Marie Leathers of Loudenville; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his little Cavalier dog, Arthur.

He was preceded in passing by his parents and his three brothers, Lee, Jimmy and Johnny Whitt.

Private services will be held.
