William Andrew Knecht, 83, of Dover, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2023 at his home with his loving wife and daughter and “loving nurse”, Chris, at his side.
Born in Zoar on July 2, 1939, he was the son of the late Russell and Ida M. (Gardner) Knecht. After completing his formal education, William worked as a heavy equipment operator running drag line for Spring Brothers. Then, he completed his professional career with Kimble Co.
William met and fell in love with his wife, the former Ruth A. Hamlin. On November 26, 1982 they were married and spent their lifetime loving and caring for their children, grandchildren, and “little people” that showed up in their home. Whether they were hosting a family birthday party or gathering outside of their home hosting a cook-out, William’s greatest moments included being surrounded by his loved ones.
William and Ruth also enjoyed camping at Atwood Lake and Clay Park and spending time at the local clubs enjoying conversation with dear friends. Additionally, William was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He will forever be cherished by his family including his wife, Ruth, of Dover; his children, Bill (Julie) Knecht of Mineral City, Alan (Michele) Boreman of Gnadenhutten, Tina (Dave) Barrick of New Philadelphia, Chris (Bryan) Aubihl of New Philadelphia and Jeff Knecht of Canton; grandchildren, Dan (Brandy) Elliott, Zachery Schrump, Ryan (Kajsa) Elifritz, Amburr “Amburr Jamber” Ramsey-Aubihl, Kori (Tristen) Lambert, Jay (Rachael) Boreman, Chas (Justin) Hughes, Ricky Fries, Amber Knecht, and Jeff Knecht; great-grandchildren, Lane, Emmy, Lily, Chase, Aspen, River, Carter, Mika, Leah, Adrienne, Aliyah, TJ, and Maisie; his sisters, Joann (Dave) Schaar and Bonnie Anderson; his “little people”; his sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Knecht and Mary Lee Crumbliss; brother-in-law, Terry Hamlin; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in passing by his siblings, Betty (T) Pope, Jim Knecht, John “Hubba” (Joann) Knecht and infant sister, Frances Kay Knecht.
Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 3 to 6 p.m. Brian Flood will lead a funeral service beginning at 6 p.m. Following the service, a covered-dish meal will be shared at Ricardo’s in New Philadelphia.
