William G. “Jerry” Bryan, age 78, of Dover, died peacefully, Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.
Born in Dover, on May 18, 1944, to the late Gerald W. and Elisabeth M. Knisely Bryan, Jerry was proud to have been a lifelong Dover resident.
He was a 1962 graduate of Dover High School where he excelled in sports. He attended Ohio University and Kent State Tuscarawas University, and served in the United States Army. Following his service, he was employed for 37 years by Republic Steel Corporation, LTV Steel, and Republic Engineered Steel in both Massillon and Canton.
He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Dover. A past Grand Knight of the Dover Council #1973 Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Dover and New Philadelphia B.P.O.E. Lodge #510, and was an active coach with the Dover Youth Baseball and a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed following his children and grandchildren’s activities, genealogy research, Dover History and was an avid reader.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Peggy A. (Meese) Bryan, their children, Ann-Katherine (Don) Staley of Dover, Jeffrey (Jan) Bryan of Dover, and Daniel (Ginny) Bryan of Columbus; his sister, Carol (Joel) Kaderly of Columbus, grandchildren Ethan (Cassie) Harry, Nora, and Arthur Bryan all of Dover, Emmett, Tommy, and Pierson Bryan all of Columbus and a great-granddaughter, Maggie Bryan of Dover as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Bryan.
A visitation will be held on Monday, May 1, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover with a Christian Wake Service beginning at 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be led by Father Jimmy Hatfield in St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 10:30 AM. Burial will take place in the Dover Burial Park.
