William "Bill" F. Mullen

William “Bill” Francis Mullen, 77, of Dundee, OH formerly of North Lima, OH entered eternal life on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

He was born on January 1, 1948, the son of the late William R. and Joan Battieger Mullen. He married the love of his life Margaret “Maggie” Snyder on July 31, 1971 and built a life based around family and later a love of Clydesdale Horses.

Bill, known as ‘Moon” to his school friends, graduated from Poland Seminary High School in 1966, where he participated in track and field, excelling in high jump, pole vault and hurdles. After graduation he attended a Penn State University Short Course to learn to shoe horses and then began his work career at JL Steel later known as Cold Metal Products. He worked there for 35 years, ending his career when the mill closed.

Bill served his country in the Air Force during Vietnam and was stationed in a variety of places most notably in Thailand and Plattsburgh, NY.

One of Bill’s passions in life was horses. Growing up he was into riding and could always be found on the top of a horse. He was competitive by nature and enjoyed 4-H and showing at 4H shows at the Canfield Fairgrounds. After marriage, his passion shifted to Clydesdales. They purchased their first pair of geldings in 1973, followed by a pair of mares in 1976. They started their breeding operation not long after with their first foals born in 1978. Coincidentally, they were raising kids and Clydes at the same time. His competitive nature continued with the Clydes, they began showing at county fairs, state fairs, national and international shows, where life long friends were made throughout North America. Bill could handle all aspects of raising Clydesdales including: breeding, foaling, training, shoeing, showing and even harness making and repair. His talents and dedication to the breed were honored in 2014 when Bill and Maggie and family were inducted into the Clydesdale Breeders of the USA Heritage Hall of Fame.

Bill is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Maggie, one daughter Meaghan (Steven) Chismar of Dover, OH, two sons, William Ryan (Amy) Mullen of Washington, WV and Alex (Rachel) Mullen of Solon, OH, eleven Grandchildren, Marhin, Norah, Rory and Ronan Chismar, Olivia, Andrew, Matthew and Lane Mullen, Jacob, Issac and Noah Mullen. He was preceded in death by his parents, William R. and Joan Mullen and his brother Richard Mullen.
