Virginia Lee Kerr 86, of Mineral City, died Friday, December 15, 2023.
Daughter of the late Eugene and Phyllis Silvus, she was born November 5, 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Virginia graduated from Malone University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and Walsh University with her Master’s degree in computer education. Virginia found her passion as an elementary school teacher, teaching 3rd and 4th grade classes at Mineral City and New Cumberland schools for over 30 years. Virginia spent the last two years of her career teaching mathematics at Indian Hills Christian School in New Philadelphia, Ohio. In 1993, Virginia was named the winner of Computer Learning Month by the Ohio Department of Education for being one of the first teachers to implement computer technology in the classroom.
Virginia married the late David Eugene Kerr on August 26, 1956 and the couple had four children together. Virginia loved reading crime novels and planning family vacations throughout the Midwest, ensuring plenty of adventures at the family’s favorite dude ranch, rafting down the Colorado River, and exploring the richness of America’s small communities through family road trips.
Virginia is survived by her children: Robert (Karen) Kerr of New Philadelphia, Linda (Thomas) Kerr Nixon of Long Beach California, Brian Kerr of New Cumberland, and Christopher (Vicki) Kerr of Dover. She has six grandchildren, Samantha, David, Jenny, Jonathan, and Sarah, and three great-grandchildren, Peyton, Annika, and Charlie.
