Obituary

Virginia M. “Ginny” Ballentine, 96, of Old Town Valley, New Philadelphia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 18, 2026 in Park Village Nursing Home at New Philadelphia.

A daughter of the late William E. and Alice M. (Green) Wolf, Ginny was born on April 1, 1930 in her family home at Old Town Valley.

Ginny attended the one room, Bucy school in Old Town Valley with what would become her future husband, Alfred “Jack” Ballentine. Ginny and Jack wed on November 26, 1949 and a short time later they moved into the same school house that was renovated into their home.

Ginny was a proud homemaker, spending time gardening and canning all that was raised. She also helped Jack on their family farm. She was a member of the grange for over 60 years.

Ginny was a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Church of Old Town Valley. She taught Sunday School and served as the financial secretary for over 33 years. She was also president of the ladies aide society of the church and took great pride in caring for the alter of the church.

She is survived by her children, Connie Wilhelm, Ben (Bobbie) Ballentine and Perry (Donna Zadra) Ballentine all of New Philadelphia; eight grandchildren, Heather Edwards, Evan (Shannon) Brown, B.J. (Michele) Brown, Traci (Richard) Gardner, Brandi (Aris) Terakedis, Kristi (Roy) Beach, Nicole (Josh) Barousse, and Casey Ballentine; her step-grandchildren, Eric (Sunny) Wilhelm, Jennifer Barkley, Chad McGlothlin, and Christin (Todd) Woods; 18 great-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren, and one on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents; husband of 70 years, Ginny was preceded in death by an infant son, Jeffrey Gene Ballentine; son-in-law, Dick Wilhelm; brothers, Dwight Wolf and Bill Wolf; and sisters, Marilyn Stiffler, and Margaret Beans.

The family will greet guests on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service honoring Ginny’s life will be led by Pastor Randy Stull in the funeral home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in East Ave. Cemetery.
