Vance D. Murphy, Jr., age 79, of Stow and formerly of New Philadelphia passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, September 26, 2025, at The Pavilion at Stow, after a period of declining health. He was surrounded by loved ones at the time of his passing.
Born in Dover on June 29, 1946, he was the son of the late Vance and Harriet (Gordon) Murphy, Sr.
He attended the Starlight Workshop in New Philadelphia and was employed by them for many years. He enjoyed playing on his computer and collecting music and movies.
Vance will be fondly remembered by his sister, Patricia Morgan of Cuyahoga Falls; nieces, Jocelyn (Robert) Kilpatrick, Carol Metzger, and Karen (Steve) White; nephews, Steve (JoAnn) Townsend, and Donald Metzger; brother-in-law, David (Marilyn) Townsend; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Donna Metzger; and his brother-in-law Doyle Metzger.
In keeping with Vance’s wishes cremation care has been entrusted to Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home and Crematory. An inurnment will follow in Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg.
In lieu of flowers the family asked that memorials in Vance’s name be made to Crossroads Hospice Charitable Foundation, 10810 E. 45th St. Suite 300, Tulsa, OK 74146.
