Valerie Smart

Valerie K. Smart, 56, of Mineral City, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Aultman Hospital following a period of unexpected declining health. She was born on November 30, 1969, in Memphis, Tennessee.

Valerie found her greatest joy in caring for her family. She married Andrew Smart on September 11, 1993, and together they shared 31 wonderful years of marriage. She had a deep appreciation for nature, especially birdwatching, the beauty of butterflies, and time spent at the beach. Valerie was also a creative and thoughtful person who enjoyed making handmade cards and designing scrapbooks to commemorate family milestones. In the kitchen, she expressed her love by baking special treats for those she cherished.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Andrew Smart; her children, Mallory Smart and Austin (Shenna Haney) Smart; and her mother, Kathy Bartnicki.

Valerie was preceded in death by her stepfather, Jim Bartnicki.

In accordance with Valerie’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Dover Burial Park.
