Sondra N.
Hyde
May 20, 1938 — Oct 25, 2026
Dover
Sondra Naomi Hyde passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026 with her daughter and son at her side. She is survived by her daughter Kim (Bob) Ventre and Kevin (Marianna Bedway) Hyde; three grandchildren, Morgan (Stephanie) Long, Jaden (Tommy Keefe) Hyde and McLain Hyde and two great-grandchildren, Miles and baby girl (arriving soon) Keefe. She is also survived by a beloved aunt Ruth Goshen, brother-in-law Donnie Farmer, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don R. Hyde; parents Kenneth and Marie White; and sisters Sharon Farmer and Paulette (Don) Morrocco.
Sondra was raised and graduated high school in Mingo Junction, Oh. She married Donald R. Hyde also from Mingo and eventually moved to Cadiz, Ohio where she lived for 40 years and raised her family. Sondra spent much of that time supporting all things related to Cadiz High School where Don was a coach, athletic director and Principal. It wasn't her life's calling, but she took on the role with gusto leaving her mark on the people and organizations in Cadiz. We have since learned though that her lasting legacy in Cadiz was the waffle breakfasts she served to the dozens of kids that slept over at her house.
After Don died in 1997 Sondra was fortunate to have a late life partnership with a lifelong friend and also recent widow, Johnny Palkovic. For nearly ten years, Johnny and Sonnie danced their way through the Ohio Valley and travelled the world together. Unfortunately, their time together was cut short too when Johnny passed in 2008 but not before they fulfilled many outstanding dreams.
Sondra was a lifelong learner. A voracious reader who took adult education classes to the very end with not any particular rhyme or reason to the curriculum, other than she thought it would be fun. She did focus though on guitar and Italian language lessons though never quite became proficient in either, not for lack of effort. But with little to no training at all, Sondra could pick up a brush and make wonderful paintings. She loved the challenge. Her work now adorns her family’s homes and will be cherished. Sondra loved her hobbies, but they were just a means to an end, this is where friends were made and experiences happened.
Sondra's favorite role may have been Mimi, grandmother to Morgan, Jaden and Mac. Mimi dedicated herself, and went to extreme measures, to help her children raise their children. Mimi was competitive and she instilled that trait in her grandkids by teaching them new games and then beating them over and over. Tough on little kids but cherished as adults. She passed on to them her life of learning, and today we see three grandkids who have picked up her torch.
Sondra can't be honored without noting that she was the middle and last surviving of three sisters. Sharon, Sondra and Paulette White grew up together running the streets and hills of Mingo. They created a lifetime of stories at their childhood second home in Wallace WV where grandparents taught them the ways of the hills. From there they went on to each marry a Don, simultaneously raising three families as one. They traveled, they laughed, they bickered like all siblings. But they loved, they meant the world to each other. Life was never quite the same for Sondra after losing her sisters. Now she is with them.
A private ceremony will be held at the Cadiz Union Cemetery at a later date.
